- First, Etsy sellers still get the famous "cha-ching" cash register sound with each sale. The various notifications can be turned on and off in Settings, but there is still no clear way for a seller to set limits on when a notification is heard. Only time will tell if this app will respect my phone's master notification settings, so I don't get a loud cha-ching at 3am.
- [Updated: I got my middle of the night wake up cha-ching, so this app does break through my phone's silent all apps setting. This is sad as now I have to permanently silent the cha-ching on the app itself. And I no longer get any notifications, at all. Nothing. Not even the visual notification that tells me I got a sale.]
- Sellers should have improved contact with Buyers with the ability to respond to messages while away from the computer
- The app's Dashboard gives sellers a clean, two column "Activity" and "Stats" for quick reference (fantastic for us stat-o-holics)

Best Features: The ease of answering conversations right on a seller's smartphone is truly a step in the right direction. "Snippets" function in conversations (upper right icon) allows the user to create commonly used word phrases used in convos. The ability to check orders on the go is fantastic. The integration of phone notification with the app runs smoothly: when a notification shows on the phone, a user clicks and is taken directly to the information in the app. |
Hidden Features: Click on the "Account" button to find where a seller can view / edit "Info and Appearance" and "Shop Policies." This is not really hidden, per say, but may be over-looked. User Help is in the settings menu under "Sell on Etsy Help Center."
Wish List: Shipping is missing at this time. Stats automatically come up for a week when I just want to see today. Still, I can click "today" in the drop-down; just one extra click, so maybe I'm nit-picking. Android "Back" button takes the user to a previous menu but will close out the app if clicked beyond the main menu (don't ask how many times I back-clicked-closed-app on myself: will take time to learn the feel of this app).
Glitch? In the account section, you can click on "You shop in the Etsy App" but I have no idea what this function is about because it took me to the App Store and a painfully glaring, bright orange and white background. I'd look again, but the loud contrasting colors are hard on the eye. A glitch of the app or my phone? I'm not sure, but I won't be clicking on that button again anytime soon.
Overall, I like the look and user interaction of the new Sell on Etys app; I have revised my rating of the Etsy app after I had to stop the notifications to avoid being woken at night. Now, as I stated, I get no notifications. So, I see no reason to use the app. However, I'm glad the Android version is now available. I hope they improve some of the glitches and rethink notifications being all or nothing.
According to the post on their website from the Etsy Mobile Team, they "highly encourage" their sellers to "migrate over to Sell on Etsy." If you're using the old app, you might want to check out the new version for Android (also on iPhones). Here is Etsy's Help Article for the new app. We can assume there will be adjustments along the way, but this is a very good Android roll out. Thank you Etsy for offering something specifically for sellers.
Now, about those new places? Where are we going? I'm hoping for a great year in my vintage Etsy store, jazzjodi, and I think with some of the changes I'm seeing at Etsy, my new places = success.
Go to your phone's "Play Store" to download the "Sell on Etsy" app. Let me know what you think of the new sellers app and leave a comment to share your experiences.
