Miracle of the Snakeskin Purse
Sometimes, I come across a purse that's a total keeper. I just can't sell. But keeping the merchandise for yourself is no way to run a business. Then other times, the universe conspires to create a vintage miracle.
When I first saw this handbag in the thrift store, I fell in love. It was just so pretty and unique. And when I brought the purse home, I didn't want to sell it, but I already have a lot of vintage purses. I'm running a business here and can't keep all the inventory for myself. But the purse sat there, waiting to be processed. And it sat there... and sat there. I kept thinking, "I don't want to sell this purse." Then, the next week, I went vintage shopping across town and guess what? Continue Reading . . .
I couldn't believe my eyes; the same purse. A twin purse! Well, you can imagine how quickly I snatched that second purse off the display hanger and hugged it to my chest (yes, I hugged the purse; don't act like you haven't done that before lol). Then, when I got home, I wondered, "Had this purse been some mass-produced item in the 1950s / 1960s?" So, I looked on the Internet but could only find one other purse even vaguely similar. The purse probably wasn't a mass-produced item, in vast quantities. This begs the question, how did I find two of the exact same purses (one is slightly darker shade) in two different thrift stores within two weeks of each other?
Maybe the purses belonged to the same woman? I did find them each at two different CHKD thrift stores. Often, when a thrift store gets a donation, they ship some of the items to other stores. That's a plausible scenario, but some times when the universe gives you a vintage miracle, you just say thank you. |
I've decided to keep the darker purse for myself. It's a bit worn and has a trace of blue paint on the handle. I'm going to sell the light beige purse; it's mint, like new, and it even has the original mirror still wrapped in the paper. I wonder if the same woman owned both purses and if she put the lighter purse away, never to be used? It's fun to think about, and they are both stunning bags. Thank you universe!
I've listed the light beige purse for sale at my Etsy here |
